Punta Mita Activies
The area around Punta de Mita has some of the best sport fishing in the world. A trip to the fishing grounds around the Marietas Islands, El Morro, Corbetena or 25 miles out to El Banco can yield trophy sized black, blue, and striped marlin, yellow fin tuna, sailfish, dorado, rooster fish and more. You can rent a panga or hire a local fishing charter.
Pangas are available for a boat trip to the beautiful Marietas Islands where you can snorkel in the warm waters and see numerous species of colorful reef fish, sea turtles, manta rays and more. These islands are also home to several endangered species of birds, including the Blue Footed Boobie seen in only a few other areas of the world.
Punta de Mita is a surfer’s paradise with over 30 excellent breaks around this part of the bay and coast. Some are only available by boat but others can be accessed by a short drive and/or walk to the beach. The local surf shops can help you with your rental needs as well as provide lessons. Boats are available to take you to the ideal surf spots. Punta de Mita, with its idyllic conditions, is the perfect place for learning the sport.
Humpback whales migrate to Banderas Bay every year to bear their young. They can be seen in the Bay off Punta de Mita between November and March, and it is well worth taking the tour out to see these magnificent creatures up close.
